At the beginning of September last year we had a request from Balfour Beatty; some of their team were keen to help walk our hounds. It seemed however an opportunity too good to miss, so after arranging a visit to the kennels, we met with Loma and Tom who told us that through their Social Values Scheme they could do some work for us at the kennels. And, of course, walk a hound or two!
On top of that, some of their Contractors would like to help as well! Fast forward to May 2026 and we have new outside lighting at the kennels, a completely renovated set of exercises pens with new concrete and fencing, a mud free area outside the kennels where we can park the van without it sinking, filled in potholes, and, very importantly, we have introduced a whole bunch of new people to these wonderful dogs.
A very big thank you too to the wonderful volunteers who took dogs out for day trips, foster families who took dogs home for a week or two, and of course to the walkers who were navigating different ways in and out of the field for more than a few days.
So a big round of applause to Loma, Tom, Sam, and Sam, Thabani, Omar, Keenan and Ahmed from Balfour Beatty. And big thanks to Aardvark Electrical, Orsted and Llynch for financial contributions and equipment.
One of the Directors from Aardvark travelled for hours to meet with us at the kennels where he reminisced about growing up with greyhounds.
Everyone was so friendly and keen to help; there was a lot of cake and a lot of melted hearts. Our hounds and the commitment of our staff and volunteers shone brightly all the time the contractors were there.
