They’re such good family dogs. They’re gentle, loyal, and have such lovely temperaments, so we always knew that when the time was right, we’d want to give one a home.
We’d wanted a dog for a long time, but we’d never quite had the right circumstances, so once we were settled we started going along to walk the dogs.
Our daughter spotted Delly straight away. He came over to the kennel door looking for strokes through the bars, and then we took him for a walk around the yard. He kept stopping for cuddles, and that was it really. We all fell in love with him, and knew that if we were going to get a greyhound, it was going to be Delly.
The adoption process was actually really straightforward. I’d say the main thing is to make sure your home meets the requirements early on, so if you need to make any changes you’ve got time to do them. There’s a home visit where they come and check everything over, but it’s also a really good chance to ask questions in a one-to-one setting.
Throughout the whole process, Molly and the team were incredibly helpful and always happy to answer any questions we had.
We were honestly so surprised by how well Delly settled. We’d geared ourselves up for a challenging first few days, but it went so much better than we expected. We were really glad we’d got him a nice big crate because he loved having a little den to snuggle up in.
He jumped up on the sofa for cuddles almost straight away, ate really well, and went to bed in his crate without any fuss. Within a few days it felt like he’d always been part of the family. I’m sure it isn’t always that smooth and we were very lucky, but Delly made the whole transition feel effortless.

Delly’s favourite place is stretched out on the sofa with all four legs in the air. Even better if the whole family is nearby, because he loves it when everyone’s together. If I get up early for work, he’ll open one eye to see what’s going on, then go straight back to sleep until at least 07:30.
He loves a morning walk, whether it’s a quick 20 minutes or a longer hour out, and after that it’s usually back to sleep. He’s got a big tub of toys and happily helps himself whenever he fancies a play. At weekends he loves jumping in the car for longer walks somewhere new. More than anything though, he loves people. He’s always keen to say hello to whoever walks past.
Getting Delly was the best thing we’ve done. We can’t imagine life without him, and are so glad that we rehomed.
